The Garrard County Sheriff’s Office is a trained, professional Law Enforcement agency, and is responsible for Law Enforcement within Garrard County. The Sheriff’s Office is also responsible for tax collection, auto inspections, concealed weapon permits, courtroom security, and protection of judiciary members, civil and criminal process service, and prisoner transport throughout the state, and nation.

The Sheriff’s Office also assists victims with obtaining and executing Emergency Protective and Domestic Violence Orders. The GCSO Community Services Unit is responsible for conducting community block watch meetings and educating citizens on crime prevention methods. The CSU deals with domestic violence prevention, education, enforcement, anti-drug prevention, and education in the community and schools. While these are the main duties of the Sheriff’s Office, the responsibilities of the agency continue to grow as a result of ongoing changes to Homeland Security policies.
